texas may be a large state. houston may be a large town. to marigold, though, it just wasn't big enough. she'd won local pageants her entire life and was aiming for miss america or more. until she met anthony. he was eighteen while she was seventeen. she had to stay, he wanted to. it took from the day they met until her eighteenth birthday for her to decide what was more important to her: the world or tony. she surprised them both by staying. he was her world. that was enough. the two married shortly after she graduated. shortly after they married, marigold fell pregnant. nine months later, they welcomed matilda into their world.

matilda may have grown up on a ranch in texas but she wasn't - isn't = just your average country girl. in fact, she quite hates being referred to as one. she hated horses. she hated country most country music. she never owned a pair of cowboy boots or a hat. she worked hard when it came to her studies and though she had good friends and a handful of boyfriends, she always had her mothers hunger to leave. unlike her mother, there was nothing in texas that she loved enough to make her stay. when the acceptance letter from new york university came, she packed her bags. the night she graduated high school, she took a late flight to new york city.
NEW YORK •
new york was busy. new york was exciting. matilda loved everything about new york. the sounds, the people, the danger. she didn't have as much money as some people, but she managed to keep her check book balanced, her credit cards from bouncing, her student loans on check, and a weekly pay check coming in. she lived in the guest house of a wealthy family in manhattan, taking care of two kids while taking early morning classes while the children attended school. she's hoping to have enough money to leave her job and focus more on her own life shortly, but until then she's stop playing house.
