Milan had no idea why she was going over to some guy’s apartment when she had only met the guy one time at work. It was out of character for her to do so, but Myles Hampton was one of Bee’s best friends so he couldn’t be that bad right? When they first met at her office, Milan noticed right away how gorgeous he was. When somebody looked like him, it was hard not to notice. Then they started talking online more and she thought that he seemed to be a good guy. He was funny, down to earth and everybody seemed to like him. But still, while she was getting ready she couldn’t help but lecture herself in her head for agreeing to go over to his place. Like Bee said though, she was a workaholic. She didn’t have time to do spontaneous stuff on her own, because writing for a daily newspaper as well as editing didn’t leave her much time to have fun. All work and no play makes life boring though, so Milan decided to stick with this. She was finally ready to go after she logged offline and grabbed a sweatshirt on her way out when she was ready.
Milan lived a few blocks away from work and where Myles lived, so it didn’t take her that long to get there. Since he lived so close, she decided to just walk since it was actually a pretty warm night for it being September. She took her time walking because the sunset was pretty to look at while she walked. When she got there, she knocked on his door and waited a few moments. Her hair was worn down that day so she took a moment to look at it to make sure that it wasn’t doing anything weird. After that she remembered that Myles had said to just go to the dark room if he didn’t answer, so she placed her hand on the doorknob and opened it and walked in.
After looking around his place for him, Milan finally found the room he was in and stood at the doorway, breathless. He was more good looking than she remembered him being and it caught her offguard. The longer Milan stood there, the more she felt like a creep for just standing there so she decided to let him know she was there now. She lightly tapped on his doorway and smiled softly before speaking. ”I have a special delivery for a Mr. Myles Hampton? I’m not sure if I’ve come to the right place because I don’t remember him looking as fine as you.” Milan flushed a little at the line she just made up, but once it entered her head she couldn’t stop it from coming out.

the sun was just setting as myles glanced out the window of his apartment. he didn't waste time on the beautiful sunset today, even though it was calling for him to grab his camera and photograph. but photographs of sunsets, while gorgeous, were a bit overrated. and anyways, he needed to hurry up and develop these pictures before milan came over. he cast a brief glance over to the rest of his apartment, making sure it was okay for company. he grimaced a bit, seeing as how it really wasn't. he had only moved in three days ago and so a lot of things were still in boxes. at least the boxes were stacked up fairly neatly and there was not too much clutter otherwise. myles was not a terribly neat guy to begin with, so it was not a big surprise to him that his place wasn't in top shape. it was a great apartment though, on a very expensive building in the city, with a great balcony and view. thanks to his parents money he was able to afford it, otherwise on a college student's budget, he'd barely be able to afford a cup of ramen.
but enough time musing over that. myles ducked into a room that had once been a second bathroom that he had converted to a darkroom for his pictures. he was currently attending nyu for photography and addition to all the pictures he took for his classes, he was also contracted by other people, sometimes for nature shoots or ad campaigns or fashion. whatever it was, myles never passed up the opportunity to get more experience and connections. so now he busied himself with the development of a shoot he had done a couple of days ago when he first arrived to the city. the familiar smell of the chemicals welcomed him and his bright blue eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness. he went through the practiced motions of developing the pictures and let his mind wander as he did so. he began to think about milan. she was completely gorgeous, there was no doubt about that. and nice. and very professional, which was kind of countered myles' laid back and goofy demeanor. but he liked that about her. crazy as it was, it was kind of a turn on for him.
not that this night was intended to be a hook up. myles just wanted more friends in the big apple. he had a good group of close friends back in scotland and was missing them terribly. he kept telling himself that moving to new york was a good idea, but the adjustment was proving difficult. luckily he met cool people like bee, and now milan, that made him feel a little less homesick. it was not a good feeling and often left him feeling lonely, so he was even happier that milan had accepted his invitation to come over and help him unpack, with the added incentive of alcohol of course. just in the middle of his thoughts, his phone buzzed and myles reached for it, not thinking as he did so. he then dropped the tongs he was using and caused the chemical bath to splash up on his shirt, getting all over it. shit he thought as he quickly pulled his shirt off, jamming his phone in his back pocket.
he burst out of his dark room, the bright light of his apartment blinding him momentarily as he stepped out. he heard words and his bright blue eyes readjusted just in time for him to see milan in his apartment. she looked flawlessly pretty, of course. and myles? well he still didn't have his shirt on, giving her a front stage view of his tight chest muscles and hard won six-pack. he laughed lightly and said,
well,i don't remember you ever seeing as much of him either.
his thick scottish accent poured over his words as he then told her on his way to his room,
hold on just a moment, i'm going to slip into something a little more, comfortable.
a smile appeared on his lips as he played on the famous line, although this time he was covering up instead of dressing down. he dashed into his room and grabbed a tee shirt and tugged it on as he walked back into the living room to see milan once again. he shrugged and said,
you caught me at a bloody terrible time.

Milan didnt really have much of a good look until Myles came out of the room and saw that he didn't have a shirt on. Her eyes couldn't help but admire his six pack he had while he spoke. This was definitely unexpecting. "Yeah, definitely not, I wouldn't forget," milan murmured softly and shook her head, telling herself to pull it together. Between that and his accent he had, how was it possible for one to stay just friends with him? A smile appeared when he told her he would just slip something on and then be back. She nodded for her answer and said, " It's fine, I'll just admire your work you have, the pictures in here." The last words came out quickly because she realized that it could've been another line unintendedly.
The pictures in the living room had caught her eye so she looked them over. She was still looking when she heard Myles walk back in and turned to him when he spoke. " you caught me at a bloody terrible time." More like a perfect time, Milan contradicted him in her head but other words came out when she spoke. "I'm sorry, I could've called first or texted you to let you know I was here. Should I do that next time?" She added the last part teasingly but the only way he could tell that she wasn't serious was the small smile that was playing on her lips.
Milan knew that he was a photographer, so she cleared her throat before speaking again. "Are any of these yours? They are really nice." As a journalist, Milan could appreciate good photography and she liked to take her time to look over the pictures and the art in them. She had to deal with a little photography on the job when she couldn't get an actual photographer asap for stuff so she had practice as well.

as myles dashed into his room briefly, his thoughts were not on the tee shirt he was picking up and dragging onto his body. no, instead they were on the girl that had just come into his apartment. myles had known from the day he met her that milan was one of those girls that could break your heart in an instant. she was gorgeous without even trying, highly intelligent, sweet and funny. what more could he ask for? he had heard the guys at the newspaper where she worked talking about her. they all seemed to agree, she was hot as hell. but they were all very upset at the fact that she had not accepted any of their advances. they had seemed to conclude that she was a workaholic, and after having met her, myles could agree that she was very...driven. she seemed to like her job and was good at it and didn't let anyone get in the way of it. which was fine by myles, as long as he could convince her to take a little break every now and again, like he had tonight.
he caught her teasing tone and shook his head, replying,
no, no, no. i did tell you to come in after all.
he smiled warmly at her as he rubbed the back of his neck in a poor attempt to settle his hair back into its normal position, having disturbed it with his quick undressing and then re-dressing. her words caused him to move his gaze from her to the painting he had hung up on his wall. they were the first things he had unpacked and set up of course, so they provided a nice visual escape from all the other chaos in his apartment. there were several landscapes, some of scottish countryside and some of the los angeles horizon at night, all lit up by building's lights. they were some of his favorite pictures and he was proud of them, so he gave a firm nod and said,
that they are. and thank you.
a warm smile lit up his handsome features, his bright blue eyes twinkling in excitement and happiness. he gestured to the apartment around him and joked,
so i hope you brought your lasso, wonderwoman. you're going to need it.
