overall • Jane Charlotte Hathaway was born on November 8th to 18 year old Eloise Joy Hathaway and 19 year old Eric Johnathon Moore. She was born in Beaumont, California, where both her parents had grown up. Her parents had been best friends since first grade, but had never been anything more. They grew up together, neighbors for their entire life, and they were there for each other whenever one needed something. So the night that Eloise's mother was killed in a car crash, Eric was there for her, and they ended up going a little farther than either had expected. When Eloise found out she was pregnant, Eric said he would marry her and take responsibility for the child, but Eloise told him no. She didn't want him to give up everything he'd worked for for her. So he left California, went to Harvard Law School, while Eloise worked her way through the Creative Writing Program at UCLA, becoming an author, and having her child, a little girl, whom she named Jane Charlotte Hathaway.
Once she was born, her mother moved back to Beaumont to live with her dad until she could get onto her feet. She began to write, and became a published author quickly enough, and was able to provide a home for her little girl. The house that Jane grew up in was a modest, two story, three bedroom home in sunny california. Jane loved the town she grew up in, and loved her mom more than anything. She lived there until she was ten years of age, then moved away from Beaumont to San Francisco, where it would be easier for her mom to get her works published. The move was hard on Jane, but she adjusted quickly, and made good friends. While she lived in California during the school year, she would go to New York to visit her father every summer. She enjoyed New York, but still loved California more than anything. But she made friends in New York too, and she really liked her step-mom, although she doesn't really like Jane all that much.
Growing up with parents living in different places was hard, she always missed one of them, and wished her mom would just move to New York, where everything would just be easier. But her mother was never really one for the big city, and could barely stand living in San Francisco, let alone New York. But she loved both her parents and was perfectly happy with the way her life was going. She had great friends and a great school, and her life was just, in her opinion, going great. There wasn't much that made her upset or hate life, she was not at all pessimistic. Until her mom decided that they were moving to Africa. Jane was fifteen at the time, and she couldn't believe what her mom wanted them to do. She had been working on a book about the Congo Rain forest, and she wanted to actually be there. So they moved to Africa, where Jane felt completely and totally out of place. Her mom realized, after a year, that Jane was extremely unhappy, and arranged it so that Jane could go live with her father in New York City, and attend school there. So that is how she managed to end up living in New York.

Losing their kid was not a good way to start out the week. After only 20 minuets, they had managed to make him run away, and stay away, for two hours. She felt like a failure. Those were two of the worst hours in Jane's life. She had never been so worried about anything. All she could think of was finding Drake, and what would happen to him if they didn't. She had never imagined that this project would be so stressful, in fact she thought, stupidly, that this would be an easy way to get class credit and one hundred dollars. How wrong she had been. Luckily, they had found him, with other peoples help, and Jane could breath again. They weren't taking any chances this time and locked the doors, making sure that he wouldn't get out again. It was getting late, and close to bed time for Drake, but he hadn't eaten anything all day, and there was no way they'd put Drake to sleep before he ate, lest he die of hunger during the night. And with their luck, she wouldn't be surprised if he did. Hopefully he was hungry now, and would eat something, anything.
After those two hours that their little ninja was missing, Jane wasn't going to put up with him refusing to eat if she had to force him into a high chair and make him sit there until he ate anything. But she didn't think she would have to. Every kid has some weakness, and she was determined to find out Drake's before the week was over. Stephen seemed to be as fed up with his misbehaving as she was, and she was glad that she wasn't alone. She smiled when Stephen told her to get the chocolate covered pickles. She was sure that Drake would like them, most kids will eat anything that's covered in chocolate. And they were her weakness when she was little. Her dad could get her to do anything with a promise for a chocolate covered pickle. Hopefully Drake would be the same way.
Jane got the box of chocolate covered pickles and came back to find Stephen making Mac'n Cheese. Of course, what kid didn't love Mac'n Cheese? She smiled at Drake as she brought the box of pickles over and set them down. "So he wanted Mac'n Cheese? Why couldn't he have just said that before. It would have saved us a whole lot of trouble." she said jokingly. "Well, at least he's not refusing to eat now. What did you do, bribe him? That's what I would have done." She turned towards Drake. He looked content enough. Not extremely happy or anything, but not mad or anything. "Well, do you want something to drink?" she wasn't sure if he'd had anything to drink all day, and the last thing they needed was for him to become dehydrated. "I want soda!" he shouted jumping up and down. Where he got all the energy, Jane would never know. "Um, how about water?" she said. The caffeine in soda just made you more dehydrated, and water was better for him anyways. "No," he whined, "I want soda." Jane sighed. "Fine. You can have all the soda you want after you drink a glass of water." It probably wasn't smart to say he could have all the soda he wanted, but she was getting desperate. And it had worked. "Okay." he said, and Jane poured him the biggest glass of water she could find. "There you go." Drake took the glass of water and started to drink it. Jane felt good, like she had attained something that had been unattainable.
