needless to say, getting dressed up to go to some stupid charity ball was not on the top of alistaire's list. it wasn't that he hated them per se, but being the workaholic he was, he never really saw the point in these charity events. his own family had hosted events like this on numerous occasions and each event meant the same thing. throw on a tux, wear a tie and pretend to be perfect. although there were many negatives to these types of events, there were also the positive things. open bar and attractive women being at the very top of those things. it had been quite awhile since he had been to one of these events. hell, he wouldn't have even attended this one if he hadn't been good friends with the roberts family, but oh well. he figured it might be good to get some type of social life outside of his constant work, plus it would be nice to see some old friends.
he took a deep breath as he stepped into the building, adjusting his tie. his eyes scanned the room, looking for someone he knew, or even someone he'd like to get to know. he sent a brief wave and a nod to a few people he knew, one of them being his step-sister. he had every intention of annoying her later in the evening, but she seemed a little busy at the moment so he stepped towards the bar instead. after all, he had no intentions of being near the dance floor. dancing was definitely not his type of thing.
he quickly ordered a drink from the bartender before leaning lightly against the bar counter. people watching at these events were far more fun than actually doing things. although the crowds that attended these types of things were generally the same, there was always some new drama occurring. it was one of those things that was like a car wreck, you know its horrible but you can't help but to stare. a rather amused smile fell to his lips as he watched a couple already fighting. the evening had barely begun and people were already yelling at each other. it was that discrete yelling though. the type where you knew they were using raised tones, but they tried to avoid making a scene.
for some reason allie loved watching these things play out. it was always so, well, predictable. he chuckled lightly as the woman played lightly with her glass. "that guy there is going to get that drink dumped on him in a second." allie said, glancing over at the person who had come up to the bar beside him. they probably would have no clue what he was talking about, but an attempt at conversation was better than nothing right?
[ooc: ick. sorry this is awful, but i'm multitasking at the moment. the next one will be better i promise.]

tanya loved these events. adored them even. these were her kinds of things, they played to her strengths. classy balls like this gave her a reason to don one of the numerous extravagant dresses she owned, spend hours of her time getting ready, show off her impeccable dance skills, and just be admired by many other high-class socialites. she had grown up in this kind of world back in france and was eager to continue it in her life in america. tanya had been very excited when her husband first mentioned the ball, inquiring if she would like to go. of course she nodded a vigorous yes and it had been a point of excitement for her, something to look forward to, for the last week or so. which was good because between her impetuous step-children and her continuous shoots, she was ready for a fun break. it was only slightly dampened when her husband announced he had to work and would not be attending with her. despite what others believed, she might not have loved the man, but she did like him and enjoy his company.
still, that didn't stop her from pulling out a gorgeous white gown she had bought just a few weeks ago. it smooth fabric clung to her model-worthy body in all the right places and showed off her form without crossing over to the side of slutty. she did have a gorgeous short dress she was just dying to wear, but knew that enough people were already wary of her and called her a "gold digger" so she had better not give them any more reason to think so. although, after a couple of glasses of champagne and no husband, she felt fairly certain she would end up seeking out someone of the opposite sex but similar age. tanya mused over this as she applied makeup to her face, noting that she probably didn't need much. perhaps she was not the most motivated nor the brightest, but tanya certainly had looks. and they needed little to accentuate them, so she applied her blush, then eye shadow and mascara and lipstick, deciding to leave it at that. next was a trip to her closet where she selected the appropriate underwear, courtesy of her employer, victoria's secret. then she selected a pair of white mui mui heels that pushed her height to around five ten. after putting the dress on, she paired it with dangling diamond earrings and a diamond tennis bracelet. she pushed a several hundred dollar bills, her lipstick, phone and keys into the small clutch that matched and looked at herself in the mirror. deciding that she was up to standards, she flipped open her phone and called the car service, letting them know she was expecting them.
about a half an hour later, tanya entered the ballroom. as she shed her coat to reveal her dress and body, she could feel many eyes on her. this just furthered her confidence as she strode down the stairs, gently brushing a curl off her shoulder as she wound her way through the crowd, stopping to talk to the various people she had met since she had moved to new york. it was funny, the people she had heard making comments about how she dressed too provocatively and seduced her husband into marrying her, well they were the ones now who couldn't stop staring. and this only made her smile grow as she shook more and more hands, clearly in her element.
soon enough she was in need of a drink and politely excused herself from her current conversation and made her way to the bar, ordering a flute of champagne as she arrived. as she waited for it to be served, she took note of the man next to her. he seemed familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before. had she? probably. she shook her head and took the champagne, sipping it delicately as the man turned to her and spoke about the couple before them. tanya's green eyes flickered to them, a light smile appearing on her face as she replied,
yes. and that will probably be closest she's ever been to his pants in months.
she wore a slightly wicked smile, letting him know that she too enjoyed watching all of this drama unfold. it felt nice not to be a part of it for once.
