[/color] i swear this'll get better
raine darrison was a girl who did not attend many balls. in fact, this would be her first one. she did not come from a long line of lawyers, surgeons or detectives. she was not wealthy. for fuck's sake, she worked at a bar. she did not attend some expensive college such as harvard or yale. no, she went to a simple community college with a loan. once college was all said and done with, she took the job at the bar and slowly progressed. at first, her boss had not payed her much but lets just say raine had some very persuasive techniques. working at a bar wasn't all that bad as she had first assumed it would be. sure, sometimes it could be really boring and on weekend nights the customers were really rowdy but she learned how to not complain and just to deal with it. besides, a lot of the customers gave her tips ( whether it was for her bartending skills or her looks, she had no clue ) and tips were always a big, fat plus in her book. and, not only that, but several of her friends made it their hobby to stop by and visit her. of course, since raine is much too kind, she gives them free drinks but who ever really complains about that? she was aware of the fact that one day she would be bitched out by her boss at her actions but she sincerely didn't give a flying shit whatsoever. if she wants to give her friends free drinks, then, goddamn - that's what she'll do.
honestly, she didn't mind not being wealthy. she had the average amount of income, and that would simply have to do. she wasn't like harrison who probably had stacks of money. and since she was not wealthy she never really had the same opportunities as others did. for instance, she had never been invited to a ball before and to get invited this year.. well, it had been a honor despite the fact that just about everyone was invited. raine did not have the slightest clue what would go down today, but her ears had caught the gossip that seemed to snake around new york faster than a subway train. apparently this event would be engulfed with drama, which she was excited about. it wasn't like she was a complete drama whore but she couldn't live without it, either. drama simply made life more exciting, that was all there was to it. this event also required formal wear and she was glad that she had managed to find a dress stuffed deep down in her drawers. maybe it would've been wiser if she had chose to wear a gown or a dress that did not show so much skin - but, hey, everything raine owned showed plenty of skin. she had a decent body, so what would be the point in shrouding it with layers of clothing? and not to forget - raine really had no idea how to act "proper" and "formal". she did not go to fancy clubs, she went to clubs where everyone grinded up on each other. this was not her usual setting.
with a heavy sigh, the brunette ran her fingers once through her avalanche of brown curls and raised the rim of her glass to her lips. she was seated at the bar, drinking a glass of smirnoff with a timid expression plastered onto her face. this was weird for her. she was so accustomed to being behind the bar, to be the one serving the drinks and not the one ordering them. azure eyes danced around the room, taking in the numerous couples, the gorgeous dresses and the sea of faces. there were many people here who she knew but she made no approach to get up and waltz over to fire up a conversation. no, she was simply too comfy sitting at the bar and sipping her drink politely.
