a very indecisive addie stood in front of her dresser and mirror attempting to decide what to wear. after a time span of at least twenty minutes, adelaide chose her white chunks, black tights, a short-suspender combination and a green blouse. the outfit was edgy and something she had picked out on a shopping spree with bee. she debated whether or not to change once again before decided that her decision was final. the reason adelaide was being so indecisive about her outfit choice was that she was going over to meet myles for the first time in person and knew that first impressions were important. the fact he was a charming young man was something that could be effecting addie's nerves as well, but she would never admit that to herself or him. after she inspected herself in the mirror, pulled off some lint, and laughed at herself for tripping over her stuffed teddy bear, addie was ready to go. she threw her wool peacoat on quickly, grabbed her phone, and ran out the door before she could change her mind once again.
the walk to the subway and the ride was an average one. the subway stenched of body odor and rotten food as normal but it had become the smell of new york that adelaide had come to know and loved. as the subway came closer to her stop on the upper east side, it seemed at if the smell improved. she was moving from her side of town to the upper east side and it was noticable. the people getting on were better dressed and less of them were obviously homeless. addie felt twitchy and nervous as the subway filled up as she always did. a small phobia of strangers had been harbored inside of her for years but became worse when she moved to new york. adelaide suarez let out a large sigh of relieve as the door opened for her stop and she was on her way out onto the street of new york. she was just several blocks from myles's apartment and knew the time would fly by.
and the time did, before addie knew it, the tall apartment building was standing before her. she felt intimidated by the building which was extremely more lush than her death trap of an apartment. she hiccuped as she was greeted by the doorman who kindly opened the door for her. the elevator played the lame music that was to be expected and as she listened to the annoying music, she wished she had taken the stairs to avoid the monotonous music. adelaide rushed out of the elevator to find the apartment and escape the music. soon enough, the golden numbers indicating myles's apartment was before her. she lightly tapped the door wondering what she should expect. her mind rushed to the rich scottish accent she had been promised.

SO GO ON AND TRY IT DO NOT DENY YOURSELF YOUR FREEDOM a slight smile appeared on myles' face as he signed off of his instant messenger. addie had just agreed to come over to his place to help him unpack. bee had been there the night before, but she had just kept him company while he sorted through box after box. which was fine with him. myles was a very social guy and just liked having people around. perhaps that was why he fit in so well in new york. it wasn't his looks or his money or his charm, it was his adoration and appreciation of being surrounded by people. he didn't necessarily need to be in contact with them, but he liked knowing that there were millions of people buzzing around outside below his apartment window. los angeles had been similar in that way, but at the time he was living there, he didn't want to be around anyone, except charlie. and los angeles had presented him with a world unknown, a world he never should have fallen into. which was why he shook his head, sending those thoughts far away for the time being.
instead he focused on his apartment. it was a nice place with enough space for him and even for charlie when she spent time with him there. it had two bedrooms, although one was considerably smaller than the other, two baths, a living room, dining room and home office. the home office was not going to get much use, although myles had the thought of making it somewhere to study in. if and when he ever did decide to study. and the second bathroom had already been turned into a darkroom for him to develop his pictures in. it probably was not the safest, but eh, he was young. time to live in the moment and all that jazz. he had a place to develop pictures at school, but it was always in use, so myles just liked having his own. plus he took so many pictures that he felt bad for making everyone else wait while he developed his millions. he took both film and digital shots, and several of his best were displayed on the wall in the living room. besides those and the dishes, everything else pretty much still remained in boxes.
moving throughout myles apartment was a task all its own. boxes and things were strewn about in a calculated chaos. he had arranged everything perfectly so that he knew just how to navigate in and out of things. it was an art and he had perfected it. he was currently perched upon his counter, stacking up plates and cups and bowls in their proper places. sometimes he wondered why he even needed them, he practically lived off of takeout. and mac n cheese. oh how he had missed mac n cheese. surprisingly enough, kraft was not as much of a staple in scotland as it was in the us. neither was good chinese food. the chinese food there, what little there was, was horrific. they had decent other food, but the chinese was unbearable. which nearly broke myles for the first year he lived there, until he learned to live with out it somehow. now he consumed about as much as he could get. still, he supposed dishes and silverware were necessary if he ever had anyone civilized over.
speaking of civilized, myles heard a knock on the door and jumped off the counter and bounded through his maze towards the door. he opened it with a grin hung loosely about his lips, his bright blue eyes sparkling with excitement. they fell on addie and his smile broadened as he asked,
oi, where's the packing peanuts?
his scottish accent peppered each word, making them recognizable but sometimes a little tricky to understand. it only got thick enough to point of total incomprehension when he drank. a lot. but then his words didn't even make sense, so it didn't matter much. myles then turned with his back to her and said,
navigating through here's a tad tricky. hop aboard and i'll give you a lift to the kitchen.
he was, after all, a master of piggy back rides.

"wow, the accent is sexy as promised myles," she noted. "although, it could just be better than i'm imagining due to the fact i've had to deal with jersey and brooklyn accents all my life." it was a miracle that a young addie had never picked up a horrendous jersey girl accent.
the accent was as promised, charming, and a grin spread across face as she heard it. myles was as audacious as expected and more handsome that adelaide thought. she found her eyes giving him an up-down look from his shaggy blonde hair to his feet and as he questioned "oi, where's the packaging peanuts?", adelaide couldn't help but erupt with laughter. "i already told you, silly, i didn't want to get arrested for wearing something that is too revealing. maybe if your lucky.. i'll change into a packing tape and peanuts outfit later. if your lucky." she looked down to her green blouse and then back up to myles. it was too late for her to second guess her outfit now so she took a small step inside myles's apartment. there was not much room alotted in his apartment opening and found herself nearly on myles as she closed the door and looked further in the apartment. it truly was a mess and had no idea how she was going to learn to walk around in it.
myles offered a solution to her personal dilemma as he offered her a piggy back ride to the kitchen. addie chuckled once again as she thought back to the last time she had received a piggy back ride. she was drunk and fifteen years old. she fell off and had to get four stiches. addie hesistantly hopped up onto myles back, latching her arms around his neck and her legs around his tall torso. "don't drop me." she said wearily as she waited for myles to navigate her to another portion of what was probably a large apartment.

SO GO ON AND TRY IT DO NOT DENY YOURSELF YOUR FREEDOM alright, so he did have a lot of stuff in the apartment. but that was because his aunt had sent over a bunch of his things from los angeles, things he had left in his haste to leave. and then he had retrieved several things from the big storage space there in new york city where a lot of his parents' things were. it had taken a lot of work for him to get there, and even just being in there for five minutes had hurt too much. all the things in there were part of the life he, charlie and his parents had shared together. and now he could never go back to that life, despite the millions of times he thought about it and wished for it. he was a big boy now, he had to accept the fact that there was no going back in time. still, it hurt. so he had grabbed a few boxes and dashed out, unsure really of what he had taken. but it was there, amongst all the other boxes that crowded a usually quite beautiful apartment.
speaking of quite beautiful, addie was even better in person. she was nearly as tall as him, but not quite. he still had several inches on her. and her outfit was both bright and flattering, and myles liked the fact that she was wearing something a tad unusual. to him it meant that she was comfortable enough and confident enough to wear something different and still know she looked good in it. he, however, was dressed in a faded tee shirt and a comfortable pair of dark jeans. not exactly a fashion statement, but then again, myles was never much into that.
he let out a laugh when she told him his accent was just as sexy as he had promised. that was nice to know. ever since he had come back to the states he had been getting plenty of comments on it, mostly from women. he didn't mind at all and was glad that addie seemed to appreciate it. she mentioned her having a jersey accent and he wrinkled his nose in mock disgust and said,
that would make me think of snooki from jersey shore every time you spoke.
referencing that terrible tv show on mtv now about those seven kids who lived in jersey. he was rather happy she seemed to not have acquired the accent, it would've made such a gorgeous girl significantly less attractive. and she had a pretty laugh too he noticed as she laughed when he questioned where her outfit was. her reply caused him to shake his head and say,
if i'm lucky, eh? it's the damn irish who're 'sposed to be lucky.
myles grinned lightly after saying this and then turned around for her to hop aboard so he could safely carry her through the mess that was his apartment. he briefly wondered if she'd be a little weirded out by the fact that they had just met face to face and he was already requesting she jump on him. but then he felt her leap up on his back and he knew she was game, even though she warned him not to drop her. myles was a master at these, he had given dozens to charlie and his girl friends in scotland who were too lazy or inebriated to walk. addie was pretty light so it was no difficulty for myles as he linked her legs through his arms and set off for the kitchen, dodging and hopping over the boxes that go in the way. in a minute or two they were there and he set her down on the counter with a flourish and said,
see, you're safe. i'm a professional piggy-back-ride-giver.

E V E R Y G I R L D R E A M S O F H E R S E L F I N P E A R L S W A N N A B E T H E F A S T D R I V E R O F A S H I N Y C A R but the good girls suddenly the bad girlsJ U S T B E C A U S E T H E Y W A N N A B E A M O V I E S T A R - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “god, you watch that damn jersey shore show?” addie questioned as she laughed at him. the show was one of countless shows on mtv that potraited people's lush lives as being reality when the show filmed them 24/7. she had seen part of it once when she was drunk and knew it wasn't the reality of what jersey was like and hoped no one around the country believed it. “i suppose you are out of lucky then. no packaging peanuts or tape. but since you are scottish, maybe if i'm lucky you will wear a kilt for me later. you already said no to the dress thing.” it had been a priceless occaision when adelaide had seen tristan caine wearing a cocktail dress for his wife's amusement. it was somewhat nice in a way to. tristan was willing to look like an idiot for his wife's sick amusment. if that wasn't some for of love, addie didn't klnow what was.
myles acted like a kid has he hopped over boxed and dodged hazards within the apartment and at one point or another so did adelaide. she found it hard to not feel like a little girl when she was being given a piggy back ride. a giggle of laughter came out of addie at one point and an unexpected rush of happiness. it was nice to feel like a child every once and awhile. people often took addie for being too tense or uptight but the truth was she could let loose and have fun. being given a piggy back ride by myles hampton was a perfect example. it was a bit odd that she had just met the young man and was already hopping on his back for a piggy back ride but some back of adelaide felt that she could trust him, a feeling she hadn't felt since her exboyfriend sol.
even through her thick tights and shorts, adelaide could feel how cool the surface of the counter was. she remained upon the counter feeling like a queen on her thrown as she looked around the kitchen. she crossed one leg over the other and placed both of her hands on her knee as she responded to myles's comment about how great of a piggy-back-ride-giver hhe was. “it was the best piggy back ride i can ever remember having.” though addie can only remember having two or three piggy back rides in her life, the comment was still true. she had felt safe as myles had leaped over boxes and weaved in and out of the way of potential hazards. a smile found it's way to addie's face as she looked to myles and then looked around the kitchen. it was bigger than her kitchen by probably twice in size but it was somewhat understandable. addie had refused any financial help from her family. despite this, it somewhat depressed her when she saw lush apartments like tristans or bees and then saw her own little shack. “this really is a gorgeous place, underneath it all.” the kitchen was the cleanest and most clear place in the entire apartment and as addie looked around, she couldn't help by bring her gaze back to myles.
“so, myles, you have to put me to work,” addie began as looked out of the kitchen and peeked at a few of the boxes that still needed unpacking, “that's what i came for after all.” a part of adelaide felt as if she didn't push it, myles wouldn't make her unpack and she knew she would feel bad if she did that. addie took her hands of of her knee and placed them on the edge of the cold counter waiting for him to give her a job.

SO GO ON AND TRY IT DO NOT DENY YOURSELF YOUR FREEDOM with a gasp of mock horror and astonishment, myles shot back,
and you don't?
jersey shore was potentially one of the worst reality shows to hit cable, but that made it even better. whenever myles was bored he could flip on the tube and take solace in the fact that somewhere out there, there were people dumber than him. who fist bumped. and gave themselves ridiculous nicknames. how could you not like the show? they all took themselves so seriously and yet there was nothing serious about any of them. his thoughts of the ridiculous show were broken when addie spoke about him wearing a kilt. he shook his head, his shaggy hair following the motions of his head, but a few seconds delayed. he had been quite surprised to hear that tristan had donned a dress just for his wife's amusement. but then again, that seemed like something that he would do to get laid. myles, not so much. he told addie,
it's not likely. perhaps if i were smashed. but then i tend to take clothes off, not put them on.
it was the truth, myles was all too like the country song, "tequila makes her clothes fall off." any immense amount of alcohol that got him properly drunk also caused him to undress. he had discovered over the years that he would remove clothing in proportion to just how drunk he was. if he was just on the cusp of being drunk, he'd toss his shoes and socks. more liquor and the shirt would be gone. and if you got him seriously drunk, he'd wind up naked. it had happened on several occasions, or so he was told. truth was he never really remembered. but the saving grace to all this was that after spending seven years in scotland, myles had acquired quite a tolerance to alcohol. it took him a fair amount of alcohol more than the average person to feel even close to drunk. therefore those get-so-drunk-you-strip-down-naked nights were few and far between.
a smile worked its way onto myles rosy red lips as she told him it was a great piggyback ride. tossing her a glance over his shoulder he gave a firm nod and said,
damn straight it was missy.
he turned his attention back to the boxes that dotted the counter tops and the floor in the kitchen. he had made what he considered good progress and had moved all the boxes into their respectable places, so all the kitchen boxes were in the kitchen, the bed related ones in his bedroom, et cetera. with his pointer finger he edged along the tape sealing the flaps of the box shut, prying it open with practiced ease. inside his eyes found a set of plates, desert plates and bowls. perfect, he had been looking for those. hadn't he? hmmm, maybe it was the glasses he had been searching for. he bent over another box and repeated his earlier actions, his bright blue eyes hunting for the familiar outlines of the cups. aha! he triumphantly hoisted up the box he found containing the formerly illusive cups and set the box up on the counter right next to addie, his eyes flickering up to her as she spoke. yeah, the apartment was a nice place. he was glad to have it, he had been in a dump in scotland, which he shared with four other guys. not the cleanliest or the best for privacy. but they were some of his best mates, so it had well been worth it.
grinning broadly, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, myles said,
funny, that's what people say about me.
he was just teasing her, flirting a little. he couldn't help the flirting, he was just like that naturally. he did it with just about everyone, especially gorgeous girls like addie. he hoped she wouldn't take it the wrong way, but kind of doubted she would. they seemed to have similar personalities in that way and myles was predicting they would get along great. as he moved to get another box, he heard her voice and turned around to face her, walking back over to the box of cups and patted them gently.
yeah, you can put these in that cabinet o'er there.
he pointed to the cabinet he had designated as the home for the cups and then grabbed the box of plates and began putting them in their proper place. turning to face addie he said,
alright, so entertain me while we do this. tell me something 'bout yourself.
