Ji Yoon met Hiroki 2 years after she moved to Tokyo from Seoul. She was going to take university courses but when she met Hiroki everything changed. She fell in love with him and soon discovered that she could have everything and anything that she wanted if she stayed with him. At the time Hiroki was on his way to the top in the Japanese mafia; the Yakuza. Ji Yoon’s parents weren’t thrilled with her falling in love with a mob member but when they met him they realized he wasn’t that bad. A year passed and Ji Yoon found herself pregnant with a baby boy that she named Kazuki Min Yoshida. Hiroki was excited to be a dad and was already planning out his son’s future within the Yakuza even though Ji Yoon stated that she did not want her son to be a member. Still, Hiroki continued to plan secretly.
Kazuki was a handful from the start like most babies. If he wanted something he would make himself very clear on what he wanted even if he couldn’t tell his parents exactly what that was, he would cry until they got it right. When he got what he wanted and was content he always had a smile on his face and would always cling to his mother since his dad was barely around. He was around, but he was always going places at odd hours of the night and day. But when he was home he spent all of his time with Kazuki, he didn’t want his son to think he was a stranger. When Kazuki learned how to walk it was hell for his parents especially his mom. He would wander around the house which made Ji Yoon worry and go looking for him; she didn’t like him being out of her sight. She feared he might get into something he wasn’t supposed to be getting into. And he did from time to time until Ji Yoon started putting rubber bands around the cabinets that were his height, but that didn’t last long. He soon learned how to take the bands off so Ji Yoon had no choice but to put him in his playpen while she was busy with house work and other things.
Kazuki’s childhood was a very good one, because of his dad’s position he got into the best school so he could get the best education. There were a few kids that he did play outside of school but he would mainly play with his cousins, because he’s an only child he felt like his cousins were his siblings. He spent more time at their houses then his own, really. He was still a bit clingy to his mother but that was wearing off as he got older and got occupied with soccer and other things. Anything he really wanted he got, he was definitely a spoiled kid but his dad just wanted to make sure that he was happy and had everything that he needed and wanted. Hiroki did teach Kazuki that not all kids had what he had and that he shouldn’t take it for granted and to make sure that it didn’t all go to his head and make him bad. So whenever Kazuki would go to the park either with school friends or cousins he made sure to share his sand toys and include everyone in the games. But he did have his little spoiled moments where he didn’t want someone to touch his things and wouldn’t share, those were his bad days.
At the age of 13 was when Kazuki’s parents really started to have fights and bad arguments. Ji Yoon would tell him to not worry about it and that all parents had to fight sometimes. 13 was also when Kazuki started to hang around his dad more at the Yakuza headquarters but only in specific rooms. There were some rooms where he wasn’t allowed to go because of drugs or strippers but those rooms were usually upstairs whereas Kazuki hung around downstairs where his dad mainly did his business. He soon learned that his dad was in charge of all the gambling that went on and kept track of who owed what to the gang. Kazuki found it really interesting and would always ask his dad questions about it and showed extreme interest which Hiroki was really happy with and soon taught him some stuff about it.
Ji Yoon filed for divorce right after Kazuki’s 14th birthday and to her surprise Hiroki went along with it, she was scared that he would have her killed or something but he kept calm and agreed that their marriage wasn’t working out. Right after she filed for divorce she contacted her sister in New York and made arrangements for her and Kazuki to go stay there until they could either get a place of their own there or in another city in America. Ji Yoon didn’t want to take Kazuki to Korea because she figured that there was much more in America for them. Kazuki hated his mother’s decision to move to America, whenever he thought about America he thought about fat people and how fast food was the only thing to eat there. At first he refused to go but his dad told him that it was better for him to go than to stay in Japan with him. So Kazuki broke down, packed his bags, and left for America with his mom when he was 15.
When they arrived in New York Kazuki adjusted well to the craziness of it and how many people there were. It reminded him of Tokyo, especially Times Square. Yes, he did notice the amount of fast food places there were but he liked it. He loved the clothes that he found in little underground stores and he loved the subway system, slightly smaller than Tokyo but he still loved it. The only thing he didn’t love was going to a new school in a new country and learning English. His first days in high school were hell because he only knew a little bit of English, which didn’t help him at all. Of course he was placed in a class for foreign students to learn English but it was too much for him to handle at first. When Christmas rolled around he knew just the right amount of English to get him by in the city, but his accent was horrible.
Even though Kazuki has been living in New York for a couple of years he found it difficult to get into a hobby. The only place to play soccer was indoor or in Central Park, there weren’t many fields around but he worked with what he had. He joined the school soccer team as well, but he wanted something more. At 17 he found that he really loved how rap sounded. Not just any rap, hip hop specifically. He liked the stuff that meant something like Run DMC’s lyrics and he really got into Jay-Z and loved going into the neighborhood where he grew up in, even though it wasn’t the safest. But Kazuki’s neighborhood wasn’t the safest either. So he got into rapping, not the best at first but nobody is the best when they first get into something. Kazuki would go around the house rapping to his favorite songs and making up his own and trying to get rid of his accent. It would seem like he had forgotten all about joining the Yakuza but the truth is he still wanted to join, to take over his dad’s place when his dad got too old to do it. He even talked to his dad through email and occasion phone calls. Emails were easier since there’s a major time difference between New York and Japan.
Kazuki is now 19 years old and has become a pretty good rapper and is beginning to get into producing music thanks to a friend who has his own studio and told Kazuki that he could use it anytime he wanted. He still wants to be in the Yakuza, no surprise there and his mother has no clue about this and he doesn’t plan on telling her but he has had doubts about it. He doesn’t want to disappoint his mother so he’s been rethinking the Yakuza thing from time to time.

Danny sat at the bar and slowly drank a beer, he didn’t usually come to William III but so far he liked it. It wasn’t too crowded, there was no loud music playing, and nobody was trying to start fights with Danny. Not like someone always tried to start a fight with him, but it seemed to happen a few times in the past. He didn’t really know why drunken people picked him to fight, but they did. He figured it might be because of his appearance, which made sense why guys tried to fight him but it didn’t really make sense when girls tried picking a fight with him. Yes, there were a few girl scrappers who got mad at Danny and decided to try to duke it out with him. He usually just tried to get away; he would never scrap with a girl. He actually always tried to resolve problems with talking them out, he wasn’t one to actually fight people, he just didn’t see how fighting made things okay. Danny only fought if he was having a bad night and didn’t feel like resolving things with words.
Tonight was a quiet night for Danny; he had the night off of work and decided that he didn’t want to stay at home since it was beautiful out. Earlier he took a walk in Central Park since he loved how the sun was setting and he just loved Central Park in general. He always discovered something new there each time he went; though this time he didn’t really find anything new. Even though Danny had friends, he often found that he liked being alone so he didn’t really find himself wishing there was someone beside him right now as he enjoyed his beer. He felt content enjoying the beer by himself and being lost in his thoughts. He was starting to like the atmosphere of this bar and wouldn’t mind working here. Sometimes working at the Electric Lady got a bit out of hand, he loved it and some of the bands were amazing, but it could get a bit stressful at times. This place seemed really laid back, but it was a bar so it probably saw some bar fights here and there.
Danny took a sip of his beer and ran his free hand through his hair, something he did quite a lot. It was a habit that he couldn’t break. Half the time he didn’t realize he did it unless someone points it out to him. It’s not like a nervous habit, it was just a habit he did everyday like how some people bite their nails. Danny also had a habit of playing with rings if he was wearing one, and tonight he was. He liked to spin them around his finger; this habit is actually older than the hair thing. And it annoyed his sister so much that she went out and find him a ring that spun. He didn’t wear it that much, but whenever he did he had fun spinning it. He took a glance around the bar; there were a lot of older people sitting at tables and then a few younger people who were a bit louder and were just enjoying themselves.
As Danny finished his beer he motioned to the bartender for one more. Two or three beers was his limit, he wasn’t the type to get drunk every weekend mainly because he worked almost every weekend and he couldn’t really be drunk on the job. Even on his days off he didn’t get drunk that much, he usually got a nice buzz going on and that was good enough for him. But Danny did have those nights where he wanted to get completely wasted with friends so that’s what he did and regretted it in the morning. He could never understand the people who got wasted every weekend, he couldn’t figure out how they did it. But he did enjoy watching the drunken people while he worked, he found them entertaining. As the bartender slid the bottle Danny’s way he caught it and immediately took a sip.
