at new york school of art in the 1980's, roommates georgia vanessa suarez and regina elizabeth belle met, unaware of the fact they would be spending the rest of their lives together. georgia came from a poor household in brooklyn whereas regina came from upstate new york with everything she could ever want handed to her, yet from the moment they set eyes on one another they felt as if they could never be apart again. regina and georgia both finished art school and had a private ceremony at regina's parent's house to celebrate the fact they planned on spending the rest of their lives together. new york state hadn't legalized gay marriage so the two were not legally married but as far as they were concerned they were as committed to each other as any heterosexual married couple. a small townhouse in hoboken was bought by the two for their lifetime together and before they new it the couple was settled into their perfect lifestyle.
regina and georgia spent several years together before deciding they wanted to add one more to their family. they found the process of adoption to be difficult due to the new jersey standards. the state was hesitant to give a child to a gay couple. the two resorted to using a sperm donor. georgia decided on being the one to carry the child and the two began to baby proof the house. the nine months before the birth were leading up to the best time of their lives. adelaide maria suarez was born into a house that was excited and ready for her, two women who couldn't wait to shower her in love.
addie grew up in a house of love. she saw true love in her mothers in so many ways. her mothers loved one another passionately. they fought but always solved the problem with logic and laughter. her mothers were both passionated and loved their line of work, their art, and her mothers finally mostly loved her. addie yearned to find that love when she grew up. she had not a normal childhood but an abnormally happy one. when it came time for school, other students often teased addie for coming from a lesbian home but she didn't care. she was proud of her two moms. she stood up for them and for their way of life. by the time addie was fourteen, she was a proud member of her local pflag sect.
adelaide has her first encounter of love at the age of fifteen years old. she was a nerd, kept her head in the books, and her nights busy with ten different academic clubs. through one of these academic clubs, adelaide met sol, the boy of her dreams. sol was strong, dark-haired, and handsome in addie's eyes. she saw him during a speech and debate competition and knew he was for her. as she listened to his sultry voice, she was set on him and as it turned out he loved her as well. sol went to the private jewish school just a few miles away in new york. the two began a passionate relationship and even at the age of fifteen defined love. the two dated for two years despite their differences. sol was loud, daring, a little off-putting and inappropriate, and full of life. addie was quite, safe, determined, and down to earth. they suited one another. it wasn't until their junior year of high school that things became truly passionate and romantic. addie finally gave in and gave her virginity to sol as he did to her. addie found out months later that this was one of the turning points of her teen life.
it wasn't until the morning sickness that addie knew she was pregnant. upon figuring out, she had her mothers promptly take her to the abortion clinc. it had been something she rallied against for years, believing in adoption, yet when she was in the situation she knew it was her only choice. regina, georgia, and addie all cried together in the car as addie entered her journey into the clinc. when she came out, she was a little different. for years later, addie still remember the smell, touch, and feel of that clinc. she would always take the day off on feburary second and sink into a depression. after the abortion, addie ended her relationship with sol. sol was heartbroken and confused as addie fed him lies as to why she was breaking up their relationship. in all truth she didn't know why either, she would later regret it but know that everytime she saw him she would think of her decision.
adelaide finished up school coming in as salutatorian of her class. she continued on to the nearby university yearning to be an english teacher like the ones she had had who inspired her. her mothers supported her decision to stay close and addie still visits quite often.

“it probably is one of those things that look much easier than they are. easier said than done.” memories came back to casey of the time she tried skateboarding. her older brother was into it and she decided she would give it a go as well. it made her think “well, if he can do it i can.” casey took a step onto the skateboard began to go and then feel hard onto the gravel. she broke her arm and had to have small pieces of gravel removed surgically from it. the cast was a good reminder to a much younger more naiive casey that she wasn't as talented as she thought she was. it also let her know how ridiculously clumsy she truly was. a faint, barely noticable, smile came across casey's face as she remember the thousands of doodles she made on her white cast.
casey laughed as she thought of penny getting a surf lesson. she was a real pro and if anything miss penny would end up giving klaus a lesson. “well,” casey dragged out the word, “penny is a pretty great surfer. she doesn't need lessons, but i might just hit you up on that offer.” a vivid image of klaus teaching her to surf came about in her head. she would make a complete fool of herself. “penny might want to come along to watch me fuck up.” she shook her head and looked down to her orange sandals. she had tried as hard as possible to quit swearing but it was horrible. casey had the mouth of a sailor. “sorry, excuse my mouth. i really need to be more lady-like.” she took several more steps around the store and touched a pair of water shoes. their gripping nylon texture felt smooth under her fingers. the shoes had blue soles and dark designs on them.
the gellar clan was as klaus said extremely different. they each had their own personalities and way of looking at things. noah, the wild musician who went full and passionate with nearly everything, shiloh, the straightedge ex-partier who was soon to be married, and casey, the want to be politician who know who she was and was who she wanted to be. and those were just the gellars on the island. there were dozens more of their large jewish family back in balitmore. “yep, all the gellars here are related. my brother and sister, although shiloh will most likely have a new last name soon.” the engagement was fresh and new for the two. blaze and shiloh, a likely couple. casey should have saw it coming. she was happy for the two and the more she imagined the wedding the more casey wanted to find her own love one day.
some part of casey knew that klaus was a musician. he had the attitude. she couldn't describe it but being around her sister and brother her entire life she knew the markings of a young musician when she saw one. casey bit her lip as she heard that klaus played bass, guitar, and sang. it was obvious that someone was born with a music gene. it had been something that casey never had. in junior high she joined chorus and found out that she was tone deaf. her chances of being an addition to the gellar music prodidge clan was out. casey brought her eyes off the blue shoes that had been occupying her gaze and looked up right as klaus was taking his eyes off her. part of her was ashamed that she was flattered by his staring. she looked around, making sure he wasn't staring at something else. “you're lucky to be a musician,” she said as she took several steps towards him, “the only talent i ever had was manipulating peoples way of thinking and beating up boys in the school yard. it makes sense i'm a political science major, right?” she was just a foot away from him when she stopped walking. casey kept herself within an arms length of klaus as she curiously continued to look around the shop. she truly had a gift of entertaining herself by nosily looking around places.
casey looked down to her hair to noticed that ninety-five percent of her popsicle had melted inside the plastic casing it was inside. she drank the pink liquid and it's sugary taste cooled her mouth. it was freshing the slushy drink was and it also cooled her hand down considerably. she noted that she would have to get popsicles more often from such a fine establishment. it would often give her an excuse to see klaus again. she liked his company. he seemed like a truly interesting young man, who was gorgeous to boot.
